Better Flour Direct From the Farm to You

  • Grown in Ohio by McClelland Farm

Our goal is to promote local grain agriculture that allows famers to sell a high quality product directly to consumers and bypass the commodity grain market.

The McClelland Farm is a mixed grain and livestock business, raising Black Angus Cattle and Hair Sheep. The McClellands farm the Appalachian foothills in eastern Farifield County, Ohio.

The McClelland's raise Turkey Red Wheat, Rhymin Rye, Malting and Feed Barley, Oats, and Floury Yellow Corn.

  • Regenerative Agriculture

Our goal is to promote regenerative agriculture. Regenerative Agriculture refers to using farming practices that focus on improving soil health by moving carbon from our atmosphere into our soils, where it can be a net positive for our planet instead of a net negative as a greenhouse gas. Taking a holistic look at the land, regenerative farms apply various principles with the goal of making the land more productive and biodiverse over time. These principles include minimizing the disturbance of the soil and integrating cover crops and animals. This improves the organic matter (anything living or that once was living) in the soil which reduces soil erosion, and improves water retention, plant health, crop yields, biodiversity and more!

  • Stone Ground Turkey Red Hard Wheat

Turkey Red is a heritage heirloom hard red winter wheat. It originated in Turkey and was introduced to Kansas in 1873, carried by Mennonite immigrants from Crimea in the Ukraine, fleeing Russian forced military service. Heritage wheat refers to the varieties of wheat that were grown before the 1940's when wheat began to be hybridized for higher yield. It is theorized that the changes made during hybridization also changed the protein and gluten structure of the grain. This change has made hybrid grain more difficult to digest and it is thought to be the cause of wheat-intolerance in many people. Turkey Red is high in protein and can be used for any bread recipe or all purpose recipes.

Stone ground flour is superior to conventional white flour in both flavor and nutrition. Unlike white flour it conains the wheat germ which is the most nutritious part of the grain. It also contains bran that is high in minerals and fiber.
