Jimmy Red carries a mysterious past. Bootleggers found that due to its high sugar content it made an exceptional moonshine/ whiskey and historically that is what it was used for. In the early 2000s the corn almost went extinct when the last bootlegger who was growing it died. However, seed saver Ted Chewning obtained the remaining 2 ears of corn and brought it back.
